How does saving work in BLACKWOOD, and why did I lose a whole day?
Progress is written permanently only at the start of each in-game day. Anything you do inside a day can be lost if you quit or crash before the next day begins.
The clearest account comes from a Steam user review, id 235408820, September 2026, with 445 minutes played: "Progress is saved permanently only once at the start of each day, meaning a crash at any point can cost you an entire day's progress." The same review describes quitting midway through an assassination mission and expecting to resume from the previous checkpoint, then landing back at the very start of the day.
A separate thread on the Steam forums (post 565920039095505968) reports the other side of the same behaviour: after a checkpoint in the tutorial, quitting left the player unable to use Continue at all, with a new game as the only way back in. The developer, posting as timbre on the Steam forums, replied that the report had been passed to the team. No fix and no timeline were given.
A video reviewer hit forced progress resets three times: on the channel I Dream of Indie Games (unofficial, not a developer source), the reviewer was sent back to the opening after selecting a main mission, hit the same thing again after a new day started, and once returned to the apartment after a side contract to find the calendar reset to day one.
Why does BLACKWOOD crash when I press Continue?
For one reported case the developer named a trigger: Steam Family Share. In the thread about an instant crash on Continue (post 565920039095505926), the developer, posting as timbre on the Steam forums, identified Family Share as the cause on the account in question, which points at loading the game through Family Share rather than on the account that owns it. This is not confirmed as the only cause of Continue crashes, and no fix has been published.
Two more crash reports sit in the same area with no developer response at all:
- In the same thread, a player reports the game crashing five or six times at the first shootout, at the point where two cars come close together. The developer reply in that thread is about the Family Share case and does not cover this one. Reported, no developer response.
- Another thread (post 565920039095504637) reports the game closing to desktop when Continue is pressed at the QR code screen at the very start. Reported, no developer response.
Camera shake and motion sickness
Turning the camera shake option off does not stop the shake. A player on the Steam forums reported that the shake stays on after the option is disabled (post 565920039095505968), and the developer, posting as timbre on the Steam forums, confirmed the report was received and passed on. No fix and no timeline have been given, and there is no in-game workaround in the reports we have.
Stuttering and shader compilation
Reports are mixed, and there is nothing official on either side.
- A Steam user review, id 235410532, is titled "shader comp stuttering" and says nothing more in the body.
- A player on the Steam forums reports heavy stutter while still running at around 100 FPS (post 565920039095504475). Zero replies, no hardware details given.
- Against that, a Steam user review, id 235409355, reports a steady 120 FPS at 4K with maxed settings.
Two reports against one, with no hardware profile attached to either side, is not enough for us to tell you what to change. We are not repeating generic tuning advice that none of these reports support.
Other reported issues
Each of these is a single player report on the Steam forums with zero replies and no developer response.
- Physics and clipping glitches (post 565920039095505329): bodies that jitter or fly, an AI that vaults a high obstacle and drops back down from roughly ten feet, and limbs clipping through doors and grass. The one report with a precise location is at the sewer exit in the first level, where an NPC in a wrecked white car has their head through the steering wheel.
- Store page languages (post 565920039095503482): a player says the Steam store page listed several language translations before release and that the list disappeared before launch. The thread contains player speculation only. Nothing official has been said about which languages are planned.
- Download failure (post 565920039095506237): one player could not download the game and reported a Content file locked error. No environment details, no replies.
What the developer has confirmed so far
The developer FAQ thread on the Steam forums (post 587310164511701429, posted August 27, 2026 and last edited August 28, 2026) is the one place the developer, posting as timbre, has answered at length. From it: the game is built in Unity 6; Act 2 and Act 3 come as free updates to everyone who owns Act 1; the game is not in Early Access; and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S versions are planned with timing listed as TBA, which is covered in more detail on our PS5 and Xbox page. Steam Deck is not confirmed.
The launch announcement of September 16, 2026 (gid 1844115010489683) lists Act 1 content only: four main missions, side missions, 29 achievements and four leaderboards. It carries no patch notes and no known-issues list, so as of September 17, 2026 nothing on this page has an official resolution attached to it.

FAQ
I cannot buy the Supporter Edition. What is wrong?
On the Steam forums one player asked why the Supporter Edition would not buy, and another player answered that it is a paid DLC for the standard game rather than a separate edition, so the base game has to be owned first. No developer replied in that thread, so treat the explanation as player-supplied, not official. The Steam store listed the Supporter Edition DLC at 4.99 US dollars on September 17, 2026.
Is there a patch yet?
Not as of September 17, 2026. The only Steam news item published after release is the launch announcement of September 16, 2026, and it contains no patch notes and no known-issues list. Nothing on this page should be read as fixed.
Does BLACKWOOD run on Steam Deck?
Not confirmed. A player asked about Steam Deck under the developer FAQ thread on the Steam forums and nobody answered, and the developer has never listed Steam Deck support. We have no verdict either way.
