Anton Blackwood, the Main Character of BLACKWOOD

A quiet DVD store owner by day, a contract killer by night

Updated Sep 16, 2026 · 4 min read

Anton Blackwood is the character you play as in BLACKWOOD. The studio has published one sentence describing him, one store-page line about what he is caught between, and very little else — so this page keeps what the developer actually said apart from what an unofficial video only hints at.

Act 1 is scheduled for September 16, 2026. As of September 16, 2026 the Steam listing had not yet gone live — still coming soon, no price — so nothing here has been checked against a played build.

Who is the main character of BLACKWOOD?

Anton Blackwood, by full name, officially. The developer's one-line description, from the official Inside BLACKWOOD: Character Art, Mocap, Gameplay announcement of December 7, 2025:

"Set in Brooklyn, 2012, you play as Anton Blackwood, a quiet DVD store owner by day, and a contract killer drawn into the city's criminal underworld by night."

That sentence is the entire official character brief, and it is the only official place the surname appears — the Steam store text and the studio's own video descriptions write just "Anton", which is why it gets doubted. The store page does confirm the game follows him rather than a cast: "Anton's story takes place over the course of three Acts." How those acts are built is on The Story & Setting of BLACKWOOD.

Outlets such as Gematsu and Eneba ran the same description in October 2025, but those are reprints of one press release rather than independent confirmation.

Why does a contract killer run a DVD store?

Because the shop is the clean half of his life, and of his income. The Steam store description sets the tension:

"When night falls, you descend into the city's underworld as a contract killer, caught between survival, morality, and a past that refuses to stay buried."

The day job is not set dressing: the shop earns clean money, contracts earn dirty money, and a daily conversion joins the two. That mechanic is covered on Clean Cash & Dirty Cash.

What do we know about the past of Anton Blackwood?

Officially, one clause: "a past that refuses to stay buried". The studio has never gone further — no childhood, no account of how he took his first contract, no named event.

The only long-form pre-launch footage is BLACKWOOD Gameplay Walkthrough Part-1, a roughly 61-minute, no-commentary video from the third-party channel NextGenWalkthrough. It is not official. Its automatic captions transcribe speech only, so every proper name below is a transcription guess whose spelling the developer has never confirmed.

Two threads in that caption track touch his past:

  • Eight years somewhere. The auto-generated subtitles of that third-party playthrough render the place as "St. Raphael's" — "8 years. I didn't know it was that long." Asked whether he has been back since, he says no. What kind of institution it is, the captions never say, and no official source mentions the name. unconfirmed
  • A mother, in monologue only. The captions have him mention "my mother calling my name" and a habit she taught him. She never appears on screen and is never named. unconfirmed

Our reading is that both are hooks the game means to pay off, not established setting — they stay out of his biography until the studio confirms them.

How was Anton Blackwood animated?

Not by hand. From the official announcement:

"we worked with real stunt performers who have experience in film and action choreography. Every takedown and movement seen in the game was performed by an actual stunt actor, with no exaggerated or fabricated animations."

Our reading: that is a claim about production, not about the character. It says how the movement was captured, not that Anton is written as a trained professional of any particular kind. No performer has been named.

Who else appears alongside Anton Blackwood?

One person, officially: Amelie, who works in the shop. The announcement says she "acts as your assistant, taking care of customers while you focus on other tasks", and that "building their relationship opens up new opportunities as the game progresses" — without saying what those opportunities are. The shop side of that is on The DVD Store.

No one else around Anton has been officially named. Customers, a mechanic and an antagonist appear in the third-party caption track above, but with unverified spellings, so none of them counts here as an established character.

Is this the same Blackwood as Game of Thrones or Elder Scrolls Online?

No. The name collides in three well-known places: House Blackwood, the family from A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of Thrones; Blackwood, a chapter and region in The Elder Scrolls Online; and Blackwood Crossing, an unrelated narrative adventure game. None has any connection to this BLACKWOOD, which is AttritoM7 Productions' own game, and Anton Blackwood appears in none of them.

What has the developer not said about Anton Blackwood?

  • His age. Never stated, and no birth year appears in the official material.
  • Who plays him. No voice actor, performance-capture actor or face model has been credited — the only credit given is the collective stunt-performer line above.
  • His full backstory. The eight years, the mother, how he started taking contracts: none of it is on the record.

These are gaps in what has been published, not permanent blanks. New announcements are tracked on BLACKWOOD Updates.

FAQ

Who is Anton Blackwood?

He is the playable main character of BLACKWOOD: a quiet DVD store owner in Brooklyn, 2012, who works as a contract killer at night. The developer confirmed the name and that description in the Inside BLACKWOOD announcement of December 7, 2025.

Is Blackwood really his surname, or just the game title?

It is his surname. The official announcement writes it out in full: "you play as Anton Blackwood". The Steam store text and the developer video descriptions use only the first name, which is why the surname is sometimes doubted, but the announcement settles it.

Who voices Anton Blackwood?

Not announced. The studio has never named a voice actor, a performance-capture actor or a face model for the character. The only credit it has given is a collective one: real stunt performers did the takedowns and movement.
